Health Supplements

Health Supplements is non-bunded products that claim to augment the nutritional needs of the body. They are sold at specialty shops and over the Internet. Health supplements may contain vitamins, minerals, herbs and other substances all meant to improve one's health. The most common health supplements sold today are vitamins and minerals, together with amino acids and herbal extracts from plants, animals and sometimes even vitamins from pharmaceuticals.

A health supplement is usually a manufactured product meant to supplement one's dietary intake with a pill, capsule, tablet, liquid or powder. A health supplement may offer nutrients either completely extracted from living foods or that are purely synthetic to increase the amount of the absorption. It may also be in tablet form but the absorbability of tablets has been proven ineffective by studies. Health supplements are regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are generally available without a prescription, except for vitamin and mineral formulations that need a physician's written opinion in order to prescribe.

Most health supplements are available in three forms: tablets, chewable tablets or liquids. Liquid health supplements come in different strengths depending on the amount of the needed vitamin. Commonly used vitamins in liquids include vitamin C, B complex, E, beta-carotene, vitamin D and K, and folic acid. Chewable tablets are made from herbs such as ginseng, alfalfa, peppermint, and chamomile. The ingredients of chewable tablets include magnesium citrate, salt, sugar, monosodium glutamate, polysorbate, sodium benzoate, potassium sarcosinate, calcium carbonate and bromelain.

Health supplements are not regulated by federal law, although some have quality standards which must be met. Several companies are responsible for establishing the manufacturing standards for their products. Many of these companies also belong to a network of complementary health organizations or CME's, which inspect the manufacturers' facilities and perform random quality tests. The Cosmetic Ingredient Safety Database is a catalogue that offers information regarding the manufacturing process and ingredients and has a safety data sheet that has to be signed and dated before the product can be marketed. The USPHS guarantees that the manufacturers maintain proper quality standards for most health supplements, and they strictly implement quality standards during the manufacturing process. The manufacturers' primary responsibility is to formulate a product that is balanced, consistent with recommended dietary allowances and includes all vitamins required for good health. A secondary responsibility is to ensure that the product is manufactured under acceptable safety conditions. Most of the CME's monitor the manufacture of health supplements on an annual basis. When products pass the strict CME inspection, they are given a 'C' for grade; if the product falls below the grade, it is withdrawn from the market. Go here for more supplement info.

Health supplements should be accompanied by a comprehensive dietary program that has been studied and validated to reduce the risk of chronic disease and to improve the quality of life. The best dietary supplements, when used together with a healthy lifestyle, reduce the risk of chronic disease and disability due to age, is shown to reduce the probability of major diseases, such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and osteoporosis, and to increase longevity. Health supplements play an important role in maintaining good health. As an increasing number of people live longer, and the prevalence of common diseases continues to rise, supplementation may play an even more important role in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease and disability. When purchasing health supplements, the buyer must be aware of the contents and consider the claims made by the company regarding the product, unless proven by qualified physicians. Buyers should exercise caution and use due diligence in making their buying decisions. Do consider great vitamin supplement info here: https://youtu.be/ZnCELhgkDQg
